What is Palmer Ranch Sarasota?

Palmer Ranch is a residential area of Sarasota made up of 40 neighborhoods (and more going up). With around 20,000 residents, Palmer Ranch continues to grow as developers build new communities and modernize. Palmer Ranch is known for its active lifestyle, great location, and its family friendly residential environment.

The area is named after Bertha Palmer and her influence on the development of the Sarasota area. Palmer Ranch, which was once cattle land, is now a gorgeous residential community. Throughout Palmer Ranch, you’ll find a focus on the beautiful grounds filled with palm trees, plants, and trees of various kinds, honoring Bertha’s influence in agriculture. Why do People Want to Live in Palmer Ranch?

I think people want to live in Palmer Ranch for its active lifestyle, location, low traffic, and real estate options. I’ll dive a little deeper into each category below.

Active Lifestyle

A huge draw to Palmer Ranch is its active community lifestyle. So many of the newly built communities in Palmer Ranch encourage this kind of living through the neighborhood amenities. Activities directors, social gatherings, tiki bars and grills, resort pools, kids splash pads, sports courts, walking trails, fitness centers, dog parks, tennis, and pickleball are some of the amenities that are popularly found in these neighborhoods. The Palmer Ranch area also includes three golf and country clubs; TPC Prestancia, Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club, and The Oaks Club. In Palmer Ranch, you’ll also find one of Sarasota’s favorites… the Legacy Bike Trail. This is a 12+ mile trail that runs from Palmer Ranch up through North Venice. Some of the newer neighborhoods even provide direct access onto the Legacy Bike Trail.

Location

Location is a huge factor drawing people to Palmer Ranch. Let’s see why.

Siesta Key- Just a straight shot down Clark Rd and you’ll be on Siesta Key! This puts residents approximately 10-15 minutes from the best beach in the USA. More on Siesta Key here.

Downtown Sarasota- Palmer Ranch is far enough from downtown to avoid the traffic, but close enough to enjoy the amenities. Still close enough to enjoy the bayfront views, the downtown dining, and the entertainment, yet far enough to live in a quiet neighborhood.

Schools- School zoning has always been a reason for people to live in Palmer Ranch. Palmer Ranch is zoned to Sarasota County Public Schools, and some of Sarasota’s A rated schools. To determine zoning, check out this resource here.

Venice- Some of the neighborhoods tucked into the South side of Palmer Ranch are quite close to Venice! Venice has its own amenities to enjoy, such as downtown Venice, Venice Beach, and Caspersen Beach (The Sharks Tooth Capital of the world).

I-75- Palmer Ranch’s proximity to I-75 allows for easy travel. Particularly, easy travel up to University, which has become a hotspot for its dining and shopping among University Town Center Mall and shopping plazas.

Low Traffic

People like living in Palmer Ranch for its low traffic. Since it’s a residential area, the car flow through the area is residents. Palmer Ranch doesn’t have commercial traffic flowing through its streets. This lets neighborhoods feel more peaceful and quiet, too.

Real Estate

Palmer Ranch has a lot of real estate, a lot of neighborhoods, a lot of architectural styles, a lot of floor plans. Really… it has a lot of options. I think this has people moving to Palmer Ranch, for sure! Because, they really can find exactly what they’re looking for, no matter what that is. More on Palmer Ranch real estate below.
