In the early 1900’s, Bertha Palmer came for a visit to Sarasota, “a sleepy fishing village” with only 900 residents and no electricity. She fell in love and ended up purchasing half the land. Soon after, John Ringling purchased a large portion of Sarasota and the area began to boom with tourism. He dredged what is now, Bird Key, and built a bridge to what is known as St. Armand’s Circle today. During the Great Depression, he gifted the land to the city of Sarasota. In the 1950’s the area started to come to life as investors and developers moved in.
Today, Sarasota is known for its beautiful islands and keys, boasting Siesta Key. Boating, fishing, golfing, and the art culture are popular among locals and visitors. It is one of the best destinations in America! Sarasota also appeals to families with its “A Rated” school district along with its safe and friendly community.
