Gulf Gate, once a dairy farm owned by the Bispham family, is now a popular residential and business area. The land was sold in the 60’s and the area today has around 1,500 homes. The majority of the homes within gulf gate are single stories dating back to the 60’s and 70’s. The homes still carry their Old Florida style, though many of the interiors have since been renovated and modernized. Gulf Gate draws those in all seasons of life as its location offers access to a variety of things to do. Gulf Gate residents take pride in its little “downtown” area, noted for its many small businesses that represent a variety of cultures and diversity.

Gulf Gate is in Southwest Sarasota. It sits with 41/Tamiami Trail to its South and West and Beneva to its East. To the North, Gulf Gate is bordered by Clark Rd and areas that stretch a little further North to Ashton Rd. Its location can be fairly walkable depending on what section of Gulf Gate you reside in.

The area of Gulf Gate is so unique with its diverse restaurants, shops, delis, and pubs that exude different cultures. Some say it’s like traveling the world right within Sarasota or it’s also been referred to as a melting pot. This area is also known for being so close to Siesta Key and Siesta Key Beach. Many enjoy the walkable shopping and dining and the Gulf Gate Golf Club.
